Memories to Give is a duo-show between Esper Gaspardi and Raquel P Miller exploring grief, memory, and transformation. Through altars, shrines, and vessels, Esper and Raquel are claiming space for their stories beyond loss. Their work is not about static mourning but fluid regrowth—honoring those who came before while forging and discovering their own narratives.

Esper is building shrines achieved through different vessels ranging from recycled packaging and free form plaster. They are using recycled materials as an ode to the rasquache art form popular in Mexico, and their bisabuela who never let material go to waste.
Raquel offers paintings on fabric, paper, and canvas while creating new work in clay as she investigates the altar as a space for burial (object), as window (lens), as portal (transformation), and as threshold (a space neither here nor there).

Raquel’s work on fabric long for the night air, painted with unreachable skies, longing for the stars, and for those we cannot see. Esper’s mixed media work enshrines and memorializes, creating sacred objects of prayer and ritual.

Together, the two echo and mirror their worlds with vibrant, gestural, organic works. They are building and layering worlds of dreams and memories, connecting and communicating through their own visual languages. Together, they investigate moments of loss, asking themselves what happens after.

Memories to Give asks: what connects us to the world? What connects us to the living and to the dead? How do we breach that distance, fill the void, how far can we extend ourselves? Does it ask us to release parts of ourselves? Which pieces do we leave, what stays? What do we carry with us forever?
What if we made grief big instead of small? What if we enshrined our life in grief as an act of love? What would that look like? What would you give? Memories, dreams, stories? What do you need to release in order to grow?
We are all missing somebody. We all have memories to give. We give by telling our stories and releasing ourselves from shame. We make grief expansive, we witness it, and we share it so that we can transform it and it can transform us.
